Zombies, Run! 5k Training App Reviews

Awesome.

A great companion to the original Zombies, Run! for those new to running or looking to get back into shape (me). The program is excellent and the storytelling is just as good as the original (even if the stakes are lower, as is appropriate).

Barely usable

I love the theme, and I think it is well executed. The story and voice active are a lot of fun. Unfortunately the app is barely functional. It crashes upon opening nine times out of ten. I have deleted and reinstalled the app. If I restart my phone I have a slightly higher chance of it working. Very frustrating to use.

Great app to train for 1st 5k

Its great because the story line is suitably distracting from your newly running misery. My only issue is that if you go into screen lock mode often the app will go silent. You may find yourself dying/ running for the designated 8 minutes only to find its been 10-15 without a word. the app will play all the story line bits youve missed to catch up- but its fairly frustrating/ exhausting! hope they fix this bug soon!

Good

A nice supplement to the main app.

Great Concept

This is a great app for getting someone motivated to run. A storyline really helps move things along as running can get monotonous, specifically if you are confined to a treadmill. For that, this app is great! My main issue with it is that I cannot use it with Spotify. I have no music saved on my phone to preserve space. No integration with music apps, means no music for my runs, effectively ruining this app for me. It really is a shame because I do enjoy the storyline.

Ramirez2002

I have NEVER been a runner! I got the Zombies, Run! app and started walking with it. I downloaded the 5k trainer for my USAFA bound daughter and I just finished Week 8 Session1! I love running now and cannot wait to RUN my first 5k. With both Apps I am down 20lbs since July21.

Effective, especially for true beginners

I had never run before, so wanted a program that started off slow and with Zombies 5k the first sessions only require 15 seconds of running. The increases each week were challenging but realistic and after 7 weeks I can run 20 minutes without a break. The story line makes time pass more quickly but for me the real difference has been how they structured the increases of minutes running each week.

Crashes at week four....Fail

Works great up to week four. Then randomly it will no longer provide any audio, music or storyline. You have to restart it to get it to work. This is on an Iphone 4. Tried updating, no update available. FAIL.

This App got ME running!

I just finished my final mission of week 7, and I feel like a runner. What?!!??!?!! I never thought I would be a runner….especially at 49 years old. This app has motivate me to get out and do it, though. I cannot wait to start the regular missions in a little over a week.

Just needs one thing

Great app! I am enjoying it very much so far. The only problem, I dont keep music on my phone. I subscribe to Spotify! Spotify integration would put this app into 5 star territory!!

More please :)

Ive only done one run so far but it was awesome. PLEASE create a cleaning or organizing game/app. My house would be spotless. Germ warfare? Agents against chaos? Seriously.

Zombieland Rule #1: cardio

Im a big fan of video games and horror movies, and not a fan of running, but while Im using this app it doesnt feel like work, it feels like Im part of a fun zombie apocalypse story. I can close my eyes and imagine being a survivor running from the hoards (or training to). A friend introduced me to this series of apps, and not a week goes by that Im not thankful I started running. I feel stronger every week I can go farther and faster. (And losing a few pounds along the way is a nice bonus) Im starting to just enjoy running now even without the app, but I wouldnt have gotten this far otherwise. Thank you, Zombies, Run!

Fun but more functions please

Enjoying the workouts and story but would like 2 changes: 1. For out and back runners it would be nice to have some kind of notification of an average point to turn around. If you turn around after reaching the turnaround point in the story, you sometimes get back too soon, sometimes have a ways to go before you get back home. 2. Allow users to replay the transmissions. Sometimes I miss parts of it because another app is simultaneously running and another voice prompt makes it hard to catch the transmission.

So many glitches

Love the story but the glitches make this app almost unusable. More than half the time I have no music. The story cuts in and out. Im using an iPhone 6 with the latest iOS

Needs work

Needs prompts that tell you when to walk/run. Not compatible with iTunes music. You either listen to music and dont hear the story/dont progress on your journey. Or you listen to the story and you wait in silence in between. For someone that doesnt put music on their phone and relies on 3rd party apps to play music, Im very disappointed. This isnt an issue in the Zombies, Run! app.

Great fun, even if you’re out of shape.

This app is a lot of fun, even if you’re out of shape or hate exercising. Most people I know wouldn’t consider me that overweight, but during a recent checkup, my Dr told me I am officially obese and need to start by losing 20 pounds. So.. I picked up my phone, downloaded all the fitness apps I could and started trying to get into working out. This 5k training app is a lot of fun and, in my opinion, better than the others because the story telling is very intimate. Even though I know the actors are all pre-recorded, there’s something soothing about hearing the narrator’s voices encouraging me to keep going that I prefer over the robotic voices or buzzers on some of the other apps. Training to run from zombies is fun, and this app is great (Zombies! Run! is even better if you’re already a good runner!). The only CON to this app is that it seems to be glitchy at times. There have been a couple times where I was supposed to do a 30 second constant run. No problem, I’ve actually gotten to the point where I can do that thanks to the app! However, 30 seconds pass… then 45… then I feel like I’m dying and I stop and wait and the signal to stop running never comes. The narrator stops. I actually had to pause and unease the app to get the story to catch up, at which point they flew through several prompts at once. Very distracting. Outside that glitch, I like the app quite a bit!

Love it

One of my 2 favorite running apps

Love the app but limited

I love the app and its keeps things interesting. However, I do not like the music options. It is not compatible with spotify or even Amazon prime music. It lets you play music dl to your phone.

I ran 5k!

Never thought that would happen. Really enjoyed this app, and I’m not even a fan of the zombie genre. I’ve always been relatively active, but never much of a runner. The combination of a story and my music list actually got me running. Docked a star due to some minor bug issues with the app. All in all though, this is a great program. So glad I found it! Will definitely be moving on to the Zombies, Run! app. Though can definitely see switching back to this one every once and a while for conditioning training.

Love This App

Great story, every day is different (and every week the workout changes) and it plays your music between clips. It has really motivated me to get outside and run. Love it!
