Pros and cons of Zombies, Run! 5k Training app for iPhone and iPad

Zombies, Run! 5k Training app good for

The zombies make it interesting, motivating and fun. Good dialogue and storyline, good pace/progression, easy to follow. All in all, best few $ Ive spent in a long while.
Really enjoy the app! Ive been using it and find the story to be interesting enough to keep me going. Two pieces of advise for improvements. 1. Id like it if the App was a little more interactive. For example: instead of just setting time goals it would be cool if there were distance goals as well. For instance when Im being chased by a zombie I need to cover a certain distance to get away from it. Also to make it more interactive I wish I could see a progress bar/report for how close I am to finishing the run while running. 2. The app crashes and I lose my distance progress. If I skip too many songs within a couple seconds the app will start playing all the songs at once. Once all the songs finish playing the app crashes and I lose my progress. All in all a great app and I am happy with it.
I just finished this program and I absolutely loved it! I went from not running at all to being able to easily run 5 miles in less than an hour with this app. I wish they did a 10k, half, and marathon trainer as well because I would buy them without reading reviews. Love this app, I recommend it for anyone who wants to train and not get injured from doing too much, too fast. Perfect!
Really love the whole zombies run world but would love to see this app updated for the current iOS. Or at least add this beginner program to the zombies run game.
I am not the most motivated person, and ZR5K keeps me going. I will not lie, its not a miracle, but it is a very good motivation boost. I only wish it would sinc better with Apple Health and calorie counting apps (I am using other running app alongside ZR5K for this solo purpose).
Eight weeks ago the only running I did was for the bus. I still have one run left and I can now run a full 5k with only two three minute breaks (after the second and fourth k). I do have to say that it started out much easier than I needed it to but in some ways it was a good lead up because it gave me an early sense of mastery and I just compensated by pushing myself really hard during the 15 sec sprints. I highly recommend this product. It may be less interactive than the full version but it provided me with the motivation I needed to stick with it.

Some bad moments

Everyone, literally, everyone who downloads a running app have one common request, tracking metrics. How the app motivates you is secondary. People want to be able to track their progress. As a long time user of Zombies Run! I have grown to love the zombie link. Unfortunately, this link does not exist with this app forcing users to create a new account. Its a common theme in the reviews and on the six to start support site. Hopefully the company can get back to the basics and fix this basic need for the loyal customer base.
App hasnt been updated in two years. It no longer functions with the connected Zombies! ecosystem so you cannot upload your runs to their site.
I wanted to like this app. Ive had the main one for a few weeks now, and am trying to get back into running after an injury. Pros: - Like the interface, and like the web site (Zombie Synch) Cons: - no ability to skip ahead. This program assumes that you are starting at absolute zero, and that 15s running intervals will be difficult enough for you that you need three sessions to progress. Theres no option to jump in at a level more appropriate for where you are at. This will be a giant waste of time for me. - it would be worth it if the runs progressed the Zombies, Run story at all, but they dont. You dont really learn anything about Abel Township, or the history of the zombie apocalypse. You dont even collect supplies you can apply to the main app. - No Zombie chases! This to me was the whole point! Basically, this is a limited 5K training app, where the time cues are given to you by people in their Zombies, Run characters, suitable for people who are total beginners.
Any interruption makes the app stop the mission and you cant even continue. You have to start from the beginning again. Had to buy a different app which has no glitches and has made this one obsolete. Id like my money back but that aint gonna happen. Thanks!
The story line seemed like it would be fun to do, although, there are glitches with the app and music that just over lap and its just not worth it since it ruins the walk/run youre trying to do.
I started this program to get back into shape after years of being told to not do activity cause of a heart issue. Ive tried every workout program you have seen on TV, but after the first week I stopped, and found excuses to not work out. Now, i find excuses to go outside and run. I am on week 7 of the plan, which is the furthest ive done by a longshot. It has helped me run further, get my depression under control, and has given me something to do with my time. If you want to learn to run distances, try this app. If you want to sit on a couch in a week trying something else.
